The Boys & Girls Club of North San Luis Obispo County serves children with high-quality after school and summer programs in a safe, fun and caring environment. Children are engaged in academic enrichment, and social activities that broaden their perspectives, develop their skills and enhance their lives. Our children are inspired and enabled to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring adults.
Great Futures Start Here!
When school is out, Clubs are in!!
Every child deserves a great future. Yet America’s kids are in crisis. Consider these alarming facts: the U.S. ranks 22nd in high school completion among 28 countries; three out of 10 kids are obese or overweight; and one in five youth lives in poverty.
Nationally, these issues have economic implications, costing as much as $209 billion in lost taxes and higher government expenditures over the lifetimes of those who fail to graduate. Healthcare costs to treat health issues related to childhood obesity are $14.1 billion annually and states spend an average of $7.1 million a day locking youth up in juvenile justice facilities.
There’s an often overlooked, yet essential, component to transforming kids’ lives: out-of-school time. Every day, 15 million kids nationwide (1 out of 4) leave school with no place to go, putting them at risk of being unsupervised, unguided and unsafe. During the summer, an alarming 43 million (3 out of 4) American kids lack access to summer learning programs, increasing their risk of learning loss and putting them at a disadvantage before the school year starts.
As the nation prepares to go back to school, the Boys & Girls Club of North San Luis Obispo County wants to ensure out-of-school is part of the conversation. What happens during these hours can significantly impact a child’s path. For example, nearly one-third of all violent crime committed by juvenile offenders occurs during afterschool hours. By providing access to positive and productive afterschool and summer programs, we can help reverse the most negative trends facing our youth.
The Boys & Girls Club of North San Luis Obispo County is redefining the opportunity equation for kids by elevating the critical role of out-of-school time. It takes the knowledge, skills and behaviors kids learn both in school and out-of-school to put our young people on the right path.
We want to reach more kids in need and grow participation in our life-changing, outcome-driven, out-of-school time programs to transform the future for our kids, community and country. But we can’t do it alone. Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide are advocating on behalf of kids. We’re convening public, private and nonprofit partners around our goal of ensuring every child has access to a safe, engaging and productive environment after school and during the summer.
We are open Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM and at a low membership cost of $20 for the entire school year. 2014-2015 School Year Membership Applications Now Available.
