Rotating Core Program Classes
Classes are offered on a six-week rotation providing members with a wide variety of classes to choose from. Each class is lead by a Youth Development Leader or local professionals who choose to donate their time.
CHARACTER & LEADERSHIP

Torch Clubs are chartered small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 11-13. Torch Club members elect officers and work together to plan and implement activities in four areas: service to Club and community, education, health and fitness, and social recreation. Our charter of Torch Club is called The Community Kids, and we are quite proud of some of the work they have done!
EDUCATION & CAREER

Power Hour is a comprehensive homework help and tutoring program designed to raise the academic proficiency of Club members ages 6 to 12.
How Does It Work?
Power Hour begins as soon at members start to arrive and break up into 5 groups (K-2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th-12th grades) each with one Youth Development Leader. Any children who are struggling with their homework receive one-on-one help from their group's Youth Development Leader. Members receive points for attending Power Hour, having their homework supplies and for staying on task; at the end of the week they can choose to spend their points at the Power Hour Store or save their points for larger prizes. Children without homework either read quietly or go outside to play in the Quad until Power Hour is over.
Why Do Power Hour?
The goal of Power Hour is to help young people develop academic, behavioral and social skills through homework completion.
Does It Help?
Boys and Girls Club America finalized a research study evaluating Power Hour programs across the United States October 2009. They found that members who frequently attended Power Hour completed their homework more often, had better school attendance, and better grades. They also showed that Power Hour participants who received tutoring (one-on-one or small group) had more positive attitudes about the Club, the Power Hour program, and themselves. Our staff ensures that they are checking in with each child and providing support if necessary. The study also found that participants of mandatory Power Hour programs (such as ours) were more engaged in school, were more likely to arrive to class prepared, and higher self-esteem/self-efficacy.
HEALTH & LIFE SKILLS
An outgrowth of the popular and effective SMART Moves program, SMART Girls is a health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program for girls ages 8 to 17. The program is designed to encourage healthy attitudes and lifestyles that will enable early adolescent girls to develop to their full potential.
THE ARTS

There are arts and crafts projects for all ages. Activities include sculpture, collage, drawing and painting. Arts and Crafts is offered weekly.
SPORTS, FITNESS & RECREATION

Triple Play, a comprehensive health and wellness program, strives to improve the overall health of the Club members ages 6-18 by increasing their daily physical activity, teaching them good nutrition and helping them develop healthy relationships.
