The Community Kids' Anti-Bullying Campaign and PSA Project

To address the present issues surrounding bullying, the Community Kids decided to lead an anti-bullying campaign consisting of several class exercises and an anti-bullying public service announcement (PSA).

The kids began brainstorming ideas for the PSA concept and message; ultimately deciding on the importance of empowering the victim and making sure the victim and the bully know they are not alone in the fight against bullying.

During the class, the kids also got the opportunity to analyze their own behavior to see how they might also be contributing to bullying others. Bullies are people doing bad things, they are not bad people. Anyone can demonstrate bully behavior yet not consider themselves a bully, but if you have ever called anyone a name or hurt anyone, that is bullying. The kids worked hard to change themselves from within and to understand the definition of bullying. The kids were now ready to spread their knowledge. With the help of Mark Zekanis, producer, Syl Arena, cameraman and donations from Specialty Silicone Fabricators, North County Volleyball Club (NCVC), and Julie DesJardins from Templeton Beauty Salon, the Community Kids began work on their anti-bullying PSA.

This is the result:
